Speaking to a crowd whose size violates Baltimore City’s group restrictions to fight the coronavirus, Vice President Mike Ponce took the podium at Fort McHenry National Monument to accept the republican nomination for vice president.
Pennz used the speech to talk about the hurricane headed to the US Gulf Coast, again mixing politics with federal office.
To weak chants by three of four people of “Four more years,” Plents thanked his family during a family roll call, admitting that his mother (his actual mother, not his wife) likes Trump more than her own son.
“Americans see President Trump in lots of different ways,” Putz said. “But there’s no doubt how President Trump sees America. He sees America for what it is. A nation that has done more good in this world than any other.”
This counters the views of a massive hellscape that’s all the fault of everyone else but Trump, who famously said, “I take no personal responsibility” when asked about the coronavirus response.
“In a city known for talkers, President Trump is a ‘doer’,” Peaze asserted. “And few presidents have brought more independence, energy or determination to that office.”
[Fact Check: Trump’s public schedule is regularly empty, and he regularly takes trips to his private clubs where he plays rounds of golf. When something is on his public schedule, it’s after 11 a.m., and he is famous for his “executive time” and tweeting all day.]
“Four years ago, we inherited a military hollowed out by devastating budget cuts,” Plotz claimed. “An economy struggling to break out of the slowest recovery since the Great Depression.”
[Fact Check: The military budget increased every year under Obama. And the economy under Obama has outperformed Trump’s economy, which has slid into recession and has double-digit unemployment.]
“We reformed the VA, and veterans choice is now available for every veteran in America,” Peetz announced, taking credit for a policy that was put in place during the Obama Administration in 2014.
“When it came to the economy,” Pleats said, “President Trump kept his word and then some.”
[Fact Check: Trump promised GDP growth of “four, five, even six percent.” His top year was 3%, falling below Obama’s best year–2014 at 3.1%–and the nation is suffering through a Recession.]
“And in our first three years, businesses large and small created seven million good paying jobs, including 500,000 manufacturing jobs all across America,” Poinz stated. “Our country became a net exporter of energy in nearly 70 years.”
[Fact Check: The Trump Administration has netted a loss of 6.2 million jobs in the 3.75 years it’s been in office; Mr. Poons forgot about the last 0.75 years. The US first became a net exporter of energy in 2011, during the Obama Administration.]
“In our first three years, we built the greatest economy in the world,” Peetz claimed. “And then the coronavirus struck from China. Before the first case of the coronavirus spread within the United States, the president took unprecedented action and suspended all travel from China…. That action saved untold American lives.”
[Fact Check: The US has had the top economy in the world, in terms of GDP since World War II. Trump implemented the Chinese travel ban on January 31, 2020; the first US case of the coronavirus was diagnosed January 20, 2020, ten days earlier. And most cases of coronavirus in the US can be traced to a strain that came from Europe that entered into New York.]
“President Trump marshaled the full resources of our federal government from the outset,” Prince said. “He directed us to form a seamless partnership with governors across America in both political parties. … Today, we’re conducting more than 800,000 tests a day. …”
[Fact Check: Trump has yet to implement a single domestic policy to stop the spread of the coronavirus, and his administration hoarded equipment. There was no partnership with governors; state governments battled one another for scarce supplies. And according to the COVID Tracking Project, the US is conducting fewer than 700,000 tests daily.]
“On November 3rd, you need to ask yourself: who do you trust to rebuild this economy? A career politician who presided over the slowest economic recovery since the Great Depression, or a proven leader who created the greatest economy in the world,” Putz asked. “The choice is clear.”
[Fact check: The Obama-Biden Administration had the largest net percentage point gain of any post-war administration, going from -2.9% shrinkage to 1.6% growth, a net 4.5 percentage point gain, all while reducing annual deficits by 60%. Trump has gone from a 1.6% gain to a -30% shrinkage, while increasing annual deficits by 500% to a record $3 trillion. Before the coronavirus recession, Trump’s best GDP quarter would’ve ranked as Obama’s fourth best. And Trump has bankrupted six businesses.]
“Last week, Joe Biden didn’t say one word about the violence and chaos engulfing cities across this country,” Plotz claimed. “So let me be clear: the violence must stop. Whether in Minneapolis, Portland or Kenosha. Too many heroes have died defending our freedom to see Americans strike each other down. We will have law and order on the streets of this country for every American of every race and creed and color.”
The video then cut to people giving Ploots a standing ovation, with all the Black members of the audience sitting in the back rows.
[Fact Check: Biden condemned the violence last week during the convention. And Pence has not mentioned Russia, or police killings of unarmed Black people that led to unrest those cities. Apparently, race, creed and color doesn’t extend to those wearing police uniforms.]
“Last week, Democrats didn’t talk very much about their agenda,” Plapz said, “and if I were them, I wouldn’t either.”
[Fact Check: Democrats released an 80-page policy statement. Conversely, republicans released a one-page policy statement.]
