Nora Dannehy, a federal prosecutor who was a top aide to U.S. Attorney John H. Durham in his probe into the Russia investigation, has resigned her post amid fear that the investigation is being politically pressured to produce a report before the election, prior to its investigation being completed, the Hartford Courant reports.
Dannehy announced her resignation from the Department of Justice in an email to colleagues in the New Haven, Connecticut US Attorney’s office on Thursday night. She had been a long-time associate of Durham’s, having worked with or for him for decades even prior to his current assignment.
Dannehy has not spoken publicly about her resignation, but colleagues say she was increasingly concerned that Attorney General William Barr had been putting pressure on Durham and investigators to come out with a pre-designated outcome, and to do so prior to the election.
Durham had been tasked by Barr to investigate any political motivations from Obama Administration officials or law enforcement officers who were investigating Trump campaign connections to Russian meddling. To date, the investigation has produced few results; a DoJ lawyer recently pleaded guilty to changing information on a FISA warrant renewal application for Carter Page.
