Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny’s health has improved enough that he’s able to breath on his own and can leave his hospital bed in a German hospital, the Associate Press reports.
Navalny, 44 years old, was poisoned with a Soviet-era nerve agent while taking a flight out of Siberia during the election campaign in which he was challenging the power structure led by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Russian officials claim that Navalny was not poisoned by Novichok, but scientists in Germany, France and Sweden have confirmed the nerve agent in Navalny’s system. Russian paramedics have also corroborated symptoms of the poison, according to Reuters.
Navalny was transferred to a German hospital after Russian officials refused to accept the fact that he was poisoned by Novichok.
