After a disastrous and embarrassing fiasco of a presidential debate Tuesday night, the nonpartisan commission that organizing the debates on Wednesday promised changes to the format of future debates, the Washington Post reports.
The commission said the debate “made clear that additional structure should be added to the format of the remaining debates to ensure a more orderly discussion of the issues.”
The debate was marred by an ineffective moderation by Fox “News” host Chris Wallace, who was unable to control the ongoing interruptions and lies by Donald Trump. The debate was widely panned as pandemonium, with CNN analyst Dana Bash calling it a “shitshow” on air.
According to an analysis by the Washington Post’s Aaron Blake, the candidates interrupted each other every minute during the 98-minute event, with Trump responsible for 77 of them and Biden interrupting just 22 times.
The commission extended its thanks to the moderator, saying it was “grateful to Chris Wallace for the professionalism and skill he brought to last night’s debate and intends to ensure that additional tools to maintain order are in place for the remaining debates.”
