It is unclear if Trump was returning to the White House or if Trump was going back to Walter Reed to be hospitalized. Trump was wearing a mask as he was seen waving out the window. The Secret Service agents in the front seat of Trump’s SUV were wearing N95 respirators, while Trump wore a cloth face mask.
[UPDATE (5:31 p.m.): Trump apparently returned to Walter Reed immediately after his outing.]
CNN’s Jeremy Diamond reports that Trump’s motorcade drove down one side of the street and then drove back down the other side after law enforcement blocked the street.
Trump tweeted moments earlier that he was going to “pay a little surprise to the patriots out on the street.”

Trump finished up by saying, “We love the USA and we love what’s happening.” He wasn’t clear about who “love[s]” a pandemic that killed more than 205,000 Americans.
