At least nine people who attended Donald Trump’s September 18th rally in Bemidji, Minnesota, have tested positive for the coronavirus, with one of those people remaining in the intensive care, Politico reports.
Minnesota health officials point out that they cannot definitely pinpoint how a person got the virus, but all nine cases were confirmed within the window of time the people attended the rally. There were no mask requirements or social distancing practices undertaken at the rally.
At least one person was reported to have been infectious when they attended the rally. Two people who protested at the rally have also tested positive.
“Tying these cases to an outdoor event that occurred three weeks ago, where hand sanitizer and face masks were supplied, is a stretch,” Tim Murtaugh, a Trump campaign spokesman said. “We wish them all speedy recoveries.”
Photos and video of the even show few people wearing facemasks.
In his Friday interview with Marc Siegel on Fox “News,” Trump said that he would have more outdoor rallies because, he claimed, “we’ve had no problems with them.”
