Nearly one-third of all coronavirus cases in the US happening in the last thirty days, as well as 14 of the fatalities from the virus, happening in November, the month comes to a close with more Americans hospitalized with coronavirus and more than a dozen states experiences peaks in disease outbreaks.
Data from the COVID Tracking Project show that more than four million people contracted the virus, raising our total case count over 13 million. Thirty-six thousand people died in November–more than 1,200 per day, nearly one per minute.
The most startling metric, through, is the number of hospitalizations in the US due to COVID. With 96,000 people currently hospitalized, the stress on local hospital systems is hitting a breaking point. In a matter of days, we’ll have more than 100,000 people hospitalized with coronavirus. Outbreaks are happening around the country, with rural areas getting hurt as much as urban centers but with fewer resources.
Medical experts expect a new major wave of coronavirus cases after the Thanksgiving holiday, which saw the largest single day of airline travel happening Sunday. And with the holiday season continuing, shopping, work events and family gatherings, more cases are expected.
