Dominion Voting Systems, the Denver-based election systems company that has been the target of baseless claims of vote swapping and “weighting” votes to favor one candidate over another, has filed a defamation lawsuit seeking $1.3 billion in damages from Trump-supporting lawyer Sidney Powell, NBC News reports.
Powell has filed a number of lawsuits in courts around the nation claiming that Dominion systems devalued votes for Donald Trump and inflating votes for Democratic President-elect Joe Biden. Powell and others claims Dominion conspired with Smartmatic Systems, a separate company, to throw elections to Democratic candidates. This claims were false.
In its filing in the US District Court in Washington DC, Dominion stated that the false claims by Powell were malicious attempts to undermine the company’s credibility, causing it to lose business.
“Based on Dominion’s historic financial track record, contract pipeline, retention and renewal rates, and new business capture rates, as well as the nature, severity, pervasiveness, and permanence of the viral disinformation campaign, current projections show lost profits of $200 million over the next five years, when reduced to present value,” the company claimed.
