Newly sworn-in President Joe Biden is expected to sign seventeen Executive Orders on his first day in office, reversing some of the most controversial and often petulant orders that isolated the United States internationally and countered the will of the American people, CNN reports. The EOs mandate the US:
- Rejoins the Paris Climate Accords
- Rejoins the World Health Organization
- Halts construction of Trump’s border fence
- Mandates wearing face masks on federal property to fight the coronavirus and launches the “100 Days Masking Challenge” to promote all Americans to wear masks for 100 days
- Creates a position of White House coronavirus response coordinator
- Extends the eviction moratorium until March 31st
- Pauses student loan repayments and interest on federal student loans through September
- Cancels the Keystone XL pipeline permit and directs agencies to review the cancelation of environmental regulations done by Trump
- Rescinds the Trump Administration’s 1776 Commission, which tried to bury the shameful history of slavery in the US
- Prevents workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity
- Mandates including the count of undocumented citizens in the Census
- Re-institutes DACA protections for applicable residents
- Reverses the Muslim ban
- Ceases the Trump Administration’s increased immigration task forces and works to reunite families separated by the Trump/Sessions policy of separating children from their parents at the border
- Extends refugee status for Liberians in the US with “safe haven” status until at least June 30, 2022
- Bars political appointees from acting in personal interest and requiring them to uphold the independence of the Department of Justice
- Reverses Trump’s short-cuts on regulatory approval and instructs the Office of Management and Budget to develop new processes to have regulations enacted by Executive Branch offices.
