If people need any other reason to see how far out of reality Fox News has fallen, look no further than the 7 p.m. ET show on the network during which Maria Bartiromo interviewed Steve Hilton, a weekend network host, and didn’t stop his rambling of debunked conspiracy theory.

Speaking of the lab in Wuhan, China–the region believed to be the source of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus strain, Hilton babbled, “Secretary Pompeo is exactly right, that was the most likely source of the leak in the lab that resulted in the pandemic. But the question is, who commissioned the work? Who started the work that they were doing in that lab. And the answer, as I was reporting last Sunday on my show, comes back right here to our country to Dr. [Anthony] Fauci.” [Editor’s note: Hilton is not American; he’s British. He has applied for citizenship but has not yet been granted it, therefore it’s unclear what he means by “our country.”]
Hilton went on to claim that Fauci is a proponent of growing more infectious viruses in labs to study them in order to learn how to defeat them., and Hilton claims (falsely) that Fauci commissioned the work in the Wuhan lab that developed the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
The problem with Hilton’s claim is that virologists and epidemiologists have said that the virus wasn’t the result of any genetic engineering, but instead is a natural variant of an existing virus that likely existed for awhile before jumping to humans.
During Sean Hannity’s failing show later in the night, Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Hannity lambasted Fauci as “being wrong a lot.”
