In its continuing effort to increase transparency during the coronavirus pandemic, the Biden Administration will release weekly reports on the number of infections in each state, reports that were blocked from public sight by the Trump Administration, CNN reports.
At the beginning of the pandemic, Donald Trump ordered data on the number of cases be withheld from the public, likely believing that increasing numbers of confirmed cases would make him look bad in an election year. President Joe Biden, however, has reversed the secrecy order and implemented programs to increase public knowledge about the virus.
Biden’s coronavirus team, made up of medical, scientific and public health professionals, have scheduled thrice-weekly press conferences to update the public on advances on research, vaccines and other information about the coronavirus.
“In our effort to increase transparency, we’re releasing public weekly COVID-19 reports with local pandemic data previously only available to states. Take a look at what’s happening in your state here,” the Biden White House Covid-19 Response Team said in a tweet Friday.
The state-level data will be available on the website HealthData.gov in downloadable formats.
