“The police officer killed during the siege on the U.S. Capitol will lie in honor in the rotunda of the building next week, officials said Friday. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who died after a pro-Trump rioter hit him in the head with a fire extinguisher during the riot on Jan. 6, will lie in honor on Tuesday, Feb. 2 and Wednesday, Feb. 3, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement Friday evening.”
“Sicknick, a New Jersey native, died on Jan. 7 after succumbing to injuries he sustained during the siege. ‘The U.S. Congress is united in grief, gratitude and solemn appreciation for the service and sacrifice of Officer Brian Sicknick,’ Pelosi and Schumer said in a joint statement. ‘The heroism of Officer Sicknick and the Capitol Police force during the violent insurrection against our Capitol helped save lives, defend the temple of our democracy and ensure that the Congress was not diverted from our duty to the Constitution.’ ‘His sacrifice reminds us every day of our obligation to our country and to the people we serve,’ they added. Sicknick’s ceremonial arrival is set to take place on the East Front of the U.S. Capitol at 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 2, according to the statement. A viewing period for U.S. Capitol Police members will start at 10 p.m. that day and continue overnight. Congress members will be allowed to attend a viewing from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Feb. 3” – WINS.
