William Norwood III texted friends prior to participating in the the January 6th domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol saying he was dressing in all black “like ANTIFA” so that he would be able to “get away with anything,” newly released court documents reported by the Washington Post state.
Arrested February 25th in his hometown of Greer, South Carolina, Norwood messaged friends on January 5th detailing his sneaky plan. “I’m dressing in all black,” Norwood texted a group chat on Jan. 5, according to images included in a federal criminal complaint filed last week. “I’ll look just like ANTIFA. I’ll get away with anything.”
After attacking the Capitol, Norwood posted a new message to the group text, including a photo of him wearing a police vest he allegedly took off a police officer during the attack. “It worked. I got away with things that others were shot or arrested for.”
Norwood is charged with violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, obstruction of justice and Congress, theft of government property and other charges.
With his cell phone records showing that he entered the Capitol, Norwood admitted to FBI agents that he got as far as the Capitol Rotunda. In photos of the event, he was wearing a camouflage jacket and a red MAGA cap with black clothing on underneath.
Norwood claims Capitol Police officers waved him into the building. After the insurrectionist attack, Norwood bragged he “fought 4 cops” and “got a nice helmet and body armor off a cop for God’s sake and I disarmed him.”
