Before midnight on the East Coast on November 3, 2020 – 11:24pm exactly – was when I knew it was over for the Trump presidency. Those of you who read my one month later and were here on election night know how big of a deal I made of Fox News’s call of Arizona for Biden… and Trump too, given that he got Fox News to actually fucking fire the guy who did it.
But we already did that retrospective. Today’s is about the absolutely godawful four days the American right wing had after that night. To wake up one morning assured of your team’s place, that nothing can stop you, and then to wake up the next morning trying to make up bullshit excuses about some “ballot dump” showing up in the middle of the night is not where they wanted to be that day. The following days went much, much worse for them, leading up to the race being called.
What follows is a tour of the moments of that historic week from election day until the networks called it for Biden before noon on Saturday, November 7th 2020, as covered by National Zero and elsewhere (plus some fun comments from our pals at The Hill), which set in motion a stretch that was arguably the most consequential in American politics and media since the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001.

It does seem statistically improbable that over 23,000 ballots were delivered in a batch in Michigan and every single one was for Biden. We also need to know if in fact people who no longer lived in Nevada voted there. Regardless of who wins, fraud cannot be allowed to go on because it generates distrust in our elections.
