Long before she entered the political arena, Marjorie Taylor Greene stalked and harassed New York Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, including during a February 2019 visit to the Capitol which Greene posted on Facebook Live, but has since deleted.
The video, saved and described by CNN, shows Greene and group of other people wearing MAGA hats wandering the halls of the Capitol. When they reach Ocasio-Cortez’s office, they sign a guestbook at the door, writing “Socialism sucks” (although the spelling they used cannot be confirmed). The adult juveniles then scribble more in the guestbook and take selfies in front of the office door. They stoop down to yell through the mail slot of her door.
“The security guard,” Greene says, “the security guard says people never do this. It’s always the liberals and the leftists.”
Greene is then shown speaking into the mail slot: “Alexandria Occashia [sic] Cortez, I’m an American citizen. I pay your salary through the taxes that you collect from me through the IRS because I’m a taxpaying citizen of the United States. I am a woman. I am a female business owner, and I’m proud to be an American woman, and I do not support your socialist policies and I do not support your murderous abortion policies.”
Greene rants into the mail slot for about a minute. It is unclear if there’s anyone in the office.
The video reinforces criticisms that Greene is an unserious individual interested more in performance art than lawmaking and one with a particular obsession with Ocasio-Cortez. As reported yesterday, Greene went on a tirade in the halls of the Capitol, following Ocasio-Cortez, insulting her and yelling at her to respond to a challenge to debate.
“This is a woman that’s deeply unwell. And clearly needs help. And her kind of fixation has lasted for several years now,” Ocasio-Cortez said Friday after the video was reposted, as CNN’s Manu Raju reports. “At this point I think the depth has raised concerns for other members as well.”
