On Tuesday, May 11th, a Federal judge dismissed a Bankruptcy case by the National Rifle Association. The bankruptcy filing was made after New York State Attorney general Letitia James sued to dissolve the NRA after the group was found to have used accounting practices and handled funds in a manner that violated New York State non-profit laws. After declaring bankruptcy, the NRA announced that they would relocate to Texas, no doubt hoping to benefit from corrupt Texas State Attorney General Ken Paxton’s reputation for being a rabidly partisan AG who regularly abuses his office for his own financial gain and ignores criminal actions by political allies. The judge in the case declared that the case appeared to have been brought in bad faith, and was an attempt to subvert regulatory enforcement through the use of a bankruptcy proceeding. This series of events creates a very difficult scenario for the Republican Party.
Today’s Republican Party does not fear bad press in the same way that it used to, because individuals who are disgusted by unethical behavior have already separated themselves, or are in the process of pulling away from the party, and the remainder are either so brainwashed by agitative propaganda that they cheer evidence of GOP corruption as “owning the libs”, or they are so fearful of losing political power or having to face the wrath of the brainwashed base that they will never stand up against the rampant cynicism and corruption in today’s party. The one thing that the Republican Party does fear, is an investigation of their financing. The National Rifle Association is a funding member of the American Legislative Exchange Council, which distributes funds to a group called the “State Policy Network”, a collection of hundreds of conservative activist groups that promote conservative agenda items in local political contests throughout the country.
