Republican complaints about recent efforts to root members of far right extremist groups out of the US military represent an attempt by conservatives to maintain the military capabilities of those far right extremist groups, and constitute a declaration of intent to promote more January 6th style terrorist attacks on US Government facilities. For decades now, leaders of far right groups have encouraged their members to join military and police forces as a means of gaining access to weapons and training. (Rogers, A., 2021)
Republican lawmakers are now insisting that they may attempt to largely defund the US Military if right-wing extremists are not permitted to remain in their positions. (O’Connor, B., 2021) Republican elected officials who are attacking military leaders are clearly engaged in an effort to conspire to abuse the authority of their positions with the intent of preserving access to military weaponry and training for far-right extremist groups, many of whom explicitly state a desire to overthrow the US Government. Those lawmakers advocating for defunding of the US Military as punishment for the removal of far-right extremists should be investigated, and if it is determined that they have engaged in planning with far right activists who are affiliated with those groups, then they should be charged with violating 18 U.S. Code § 2385 – Advocating overthrow of Government.
