“Cobb County police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot and killed Saturday afternoon at a Kennesaw-area golf course,” reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “The deadly shooting occurred at Pinetree Country Club, a private golf course along McCollum Parkway near KSU’s main campus, Cobb police spokeswoman Officer Shenise Barner said.”
“Kennesaw State University officials sent out an emergency alert about 3 p.m. alerting students and faculty about the shooting nearby. The golf course is also used by the university’s men and women’s golf teams. Police have not said what led to the deadly shooting, but several witnesses told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution a man was killed on the 10th hole after a pickup truck drove onto the fairway. The AJC has not been able to confirm those details with law enforcement officials.”
“‘We are still in the preliminary stages of the investigation and will provide additional details as they are received,’ Barner said in an email. The suspect was last seen near the country club headed toward Frey Lake Road and is considered “armed and dangerous,” KSU said in its initial alert.”
“KSU Emergency Management sent out a second tweet shortly before 5 p.m. saying there is “no credible threat to campus” and telling students and faculty they could resume normal activities.”
Basic criminal profiling of the incident suggests this was a targeted killing and the person in the truck had a personal relationship with the victim. Police would start the investigation by looking at individuals who had a failed business relationship with the victim, as well as relatives of any former spouse, or individuals with some other kind of personal grudge If security footage from the golf course is available, it is likely that family members of the victim will immediately recognize the vehicle. The decision to call an “all clear” for the campus shortly after the incident suggests police have already identified a suspect and do not expect that person will be a threat to anyone else.
