A California QAnon adherent killed his two young children in Mexico because, he told police, he was sure they were going to become monsters and he had to destroy them, NBC News reports.
Forty-year-old Matthew Taylor Coleman, a surfing school owner in Santa Barbara County, had dug deep into conspiracy theories to believe that his wife had passed “serpent DNA” onto to his children, and they would turn into lizard people when they grew older.
Coleman now faces two cases of murder in a foreign country for the deaths of his two-year-old son and ten-month-old daughter. He was charged Wednesday in filing in the US District Court for Southern California.
Coleman’s wife said she became concerned Sunday when Coleman left their home with the children but didn’t tell her where they were going. She was also concerned that Coleman didn’t have a baby seat in his car. She called police after Coleman didn’t return numerous calls and messages.
Coleman was tracked to Rosarito, Mexico before attempting to re-enter the United States Monday. Border agents, who had been put on alert for him and his vehicle, did not find the children with him, but saw blood in his car. Coleman reportedly has confessed to stabbing the children with a spear gun. He is being held without bail.
