“Long Island’s East End is abuzz with word of a strange series of thefts. Someone is raiding beehives, and they’re getting away with valuable queen bees, CBS2’s Carolyn Gusoff reported Wednesday. At the 1760 Homestead Farm, there was a stinging theft. Back in late July, someone stole more than 1,000 bees. ‘They took the frames, the queen, the mated queen, as well as the remaining colony,’ farm owner Larry Kaiser said. Kaiser said the thief swapped out his bees with replacements, taking a special queen bee that’s part of a breeding project to develop honeybees that survive Long Island winters. The bee bandit has struck at least twice before” WCBS reports.
As with Pistachio Pete and Shrimpy Shirley, Beeswax Billy is simply a colorful media nickname National Zero is taking the initiative on. No one else is using it. Should there be some clue surface that Billy is actually female, we’ll just alter the spelling to “Billie”. We should also probably work on a cool costume for our illustrations to go with future coverage of Beeswax Billy’s bee burglaries.
Just wait until we can publish a headline that says the cops are setting up a “sting operation” with a “honey trap” to lure in Beeswax Billy. You will never hear the end of how clever we are.
