The Dallas Police Department lost more than 22 terabytes of information related to cases detectives investigated and were now scheduled for court cases during the migration of computer files to a new system, according to information gathered by the Dallas Morning News.
The data were from investigation that occured prior to last spring, and they were lost during a system process that took place in April and May of this year. It is not yet know the exact number of cases this has impacted, nor is the total loss known.
The police department informed the city of the error four months ago, as prosecutors discovered an extensive number of files that should have been in the system were missing or files were empty. “At this time, it is too soon to estimate how many cases will be affected and what the impact will be on those individual cases,” District Attorney John Creuzot said in a written statement sent to journalists.
