The US Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 late Wednesday to allow the Texas anti-choice law to go into effect, allowing for non-interested parties to sue abortion providers and assistance for $10,000 each if they believe a woman is getting an abortion after six weeks of the pregnancy.
The conservative bloc of the Court–Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Barrett–denied the emergency request for injunctive relief filed by a Texas woman’s health clinic. The three liberal justices–Breyer, Sotomayor and Kagan–were joined by Chief Justice John Roberts in the dissent; their dissents can be read here.
