Twelve classic toys and games are the finalists for induction into the National Toy Hall of Fame in the class of 2021, pitting games like Risk and Battleship against toys like Cabbage Patch Kids, toy fire trucks and sand.
The twelve finalists also include American Girl Dolls, billiards, Fisher-Price Corn Popper, mahjongg, Masters of the Universe, the piñata, and the Settlers of Catan (also known as Catan). Fans can vote for their favorites at the Players Ballot. The inductees will be announced November 4th.
“The Strong’s National Toy Hall of Fame recognizes toys that have engaged and delighted multiple generations. Criteria for induction include: Icon-status (the toy is widely recognized, respected, and remembered); Longevity (the toy is more than a passing fad and has enjoyed popularity over multiple generations); Discovery (the toy fosters learning, creativity, or discovery through play); and Innovation (the toy profoundly changed play or toy design),” the museum said in a statement.
More than seventy toys and games have been inducted into the Hall of Fame including the Atari 2600 Game System, the Big Wheel, a cardboard box, Mr. Potato Head, Scrabble and Wiffle ball.
