- The self-proclaimed Party of Fiscal Responsibility should be required to pay the $300 million California spent on the recall election. The public should not be financially liable for a GOP political stunt.
- Caitlyn Jenner finished 13th of all the alternate candidates in the recall. Is this a sign Republicans have tired of Reality TeeVee dilettantes? I doubt it.
- When talking about coronavirus in Florida, Ron DeSantis stands behind a podium with a sign that reads “Early treatment saves lives.” Ya know what else saves lives, Ronnie? Vacci-freakin’-nations.
- How is it that people flying around in orbit can post photos to Instagram but I lose cell service if I go to the back corner of my yard?
- After five years, John Durham indicted a lawyer affiliated with Hillary Clinton’s campaign. By my count, that’s seven fewer than the number of Trump’s attorneys who have/are facing charges.
- The “protesters” who plan to march to support the 1/6 “political prisoners” are right about one thing: they’re prisoners because of politics. Their politics. Trumpism is a cult.
- Tomorrow’s planned march on DC to support 1/6 detainees will attract about 300 people and no one from the Oath Keepers or the Proud Boys. They can only thrive on the anonymity of large mobs.
- The first season of The Newsroom is perhaps the most underrated initial season of a series in the last decade. Laugh-out-loud comedy and compelling drama that didn’t need to “mature.” It was out-of-the-box good.
- As a writer, I’m not bothered by Trump’s unhinged, random rants. I’m bothered by his unhinged, random capitalization.
- I wonder if Clarence Thomas and Amy Coney Barrett telling crowds during recent speaking engagements that justices are not political animals and that they actually do consider the legality of arguments when making decisions is their way of telling conservatives that they’re not going to necessarily agree with the anti-choice arguments the Court is expected to consider, even though they’re anti-abortion.
- Texas has had more than 125,000 students and staff in quarantine due to COVID since the beginning of the school year. During the entire previous year, the number was less than 150,000.
- I feel obligated to share photos–actual photos, not “phone-o’s”–I have found while searching through boxes with the people in the photo or their children. Photos are/were rarely shared with others because getting copies was so inconvenient.
- Chicken Noodle is the King of Soups. Italian Wedding. Split Pea with ham. Wild mushroom with sherry. Clam Chowder. Stews and chilis are not soups. I didn’t develop a taste for tomato soup until I was in my thirties, but the best ones are thick with a touch of cream and a sprinkle of parmesan.
- When serving soup, always offer crackers or hard-crusted bread on the side. And yes, it is acceptable to sop up the soup at the bottom of the bowl with your bread. (Chefs are complemented by it.) It is NOT acceptable to use buttered bread, however.
- The Doggo wanted to contribute this week, adding that his favorite spots for scratches: Belly. Butt. Behind the Ears. Chest. Neck/Jaw. Pretty much anywhere, really. And he’s wondering why I’m paying attention to a computer and not verifying the order.
