Elon Musk announced Thursday that his electric car company, Tesla, will move its headquarters from Palo Alto, California to Austin, Texas, the Washington Post reports, as Musk also states that the company will still maintain its presence in California.
The announcement comes as Tesla is building a new manufacturing plant in the Austin area that will employ 10,000 workers. Musk’s other major venture, SpaceX, is also based in Texas, utilizing existing NASA facilities.
The facilities Tesla uses in the Palo Alto’s Stanford Research Park are limited because of the existing development around them. Musk had also complained that California’s coronavirus lockdown hurt production at the Fremont, California manufacturing plant.
