In a newly discovered video, Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (Q-Colo), speaking at a September fundraiser in New York, repeats a number of the xenophobic, Islamophobic comments she made during a videotaped talk over the Thanksgiving break, calling into doubt Boebert’s claims that she doesn’t insult people based on their religions.
Posted on the Facebook page “Leticia Remauro for SI Borough President” supporting a Republican candidate for Staten Island’s top elected position, Boebert is heard calling Democratic Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and Democratic Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib “black hearted evil women who want to destroy our nation,” a line which gets a round of applause from the group.
In her characteristic off-beat speaking cadence, Boebert goes on to repeat the story, which Omar denies, about being in an elevator with Omar. In this retelling, however, Boebert says she was with a “staffer on his first day with me,” to whom she made her Islamophobic comment about Omar not being a terrorist. (In the video released last week, Boebert claimed she made the comment to a Capitol Police officer running urgently to the elevator.)
