NIH Director Anthony Fauci appeared on Meet the Press to discuss the Omicron variant. Fauci described how the transmissibility of Omicron appears to exceed all previous variants, and cautioned that initial claims from South African studies that Omicron causes fewer cases of hospitalization and need for oxygen may be due to prior experience with Covid19 infections in that study group.
Fauci also warned that “when you have so many infections, even if it is moderately less severe, that can overcome this moderate diminution in severity…our hospitals, if things keep looking like they do now, in the next week or two are going to be very stressed…”
Fauci then reiterated the same advice that Federal Officials have been offering since President Biden took office: Frequent hand-washing, wearing a mask in public places, practicing proper social distancing, and getting vaccinated.
Trump supporters who are skeptical of “big government” are widely expected to ignore Fauci’s advice in favor of whatever random crap they read on social media. On a related note, it’s a known fact that the body sheds the Covid19 virus in stools, and testing virus levels in wastewater has become a recognized method of evaluating the spread of Covid in a community. Therefore, Trump supporters should consider taking powerful laxatives to force the virus out of their bodies. People with a very sick and mischievious sense of humor may want to recommend to anti-vax and anti-mask extremists that they drink a bottle of magnesium citrate every day for three to five days in a row if they suspect they’ve been exposed to Covid19.
