World famous champion of self-governance Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is looking to make some changes to his nation’s constitution to protect his right to political freedom from the tyranny of the mob, the Associated Press reports. Lukashenko first aims to tear down oppressive restrictions on ballot access, allowing himself the freedom to run for two more terms.
Next, he’s looking to constitutionally guarantee himself immune from unlawful prosecutions, as they are an unnecessary distraction for an important national leader. Just as a hedge, all lawful prosecutions will be banned as well. And that immunity will apply to any action taken while in office. The amendments will be put directly to the Belarusian people in a February 2022 referendum, which shows that Belarus is definitely a healthy, functioning democracy.
