While American conservatives repeatedly gripe about a 6% inflation rate the US is experiencing as it recovers from the Trump recession of 2020, Turkey’s economy recorded a 36% inflation rate under the policies of Recep Erdogan, a favored foreign leader of Donald Trump, the Associated Press reports.
The Turkish consumer price index rose a whopping 13.58% in 2020, with food prices skyrocketing by 43.8%, according to data collected by the Turkish Statistical Institute. The inflation rate was the highest in Turkey since 2002, the year Erdogan took power.
“Whatever the reason, we regret that our citizens are faced with such a picture,” Erdogan said in reference to Monday’s inflation rate. “We are determined to break the neck of inflation and bring it back to single digits as soon as possible.”
