Quebec will require valid COVID-19 vaccine cards to presented upon entry to government liquor and cannabis shops starting January 18th per a new directive from the provincial health ministry, CTV News Montreal reports. “I hope this will be an additional incentive for some to go get their first dose,” said Quebec Health Minister Christian Dube on Thursday, adding “The vaccination passport will be extended to certain non-essential commerces in the coming weeks and we’ll come back with a list after we have talked to the industries. Let me be very clear, if they can’t protect themselves, we will protect them against themselves. And we will make sure that they understand very clearly that if they don’t want to be vaccinated, they just stay home.”
Much like the systems in US states such as Pennsylvania, Idaho, and New Hampshire, Quebecois can only purchase packaged liquor through government owned and operated retail stores, with the same applying to marijuana in Quebec. The unvaxxed could soon find themselves reliving their teenage years, hanging out in front of the liquor stores waiting for a random adult who seems cool enough to trust with their money to ask them to go in and buy the booze for them.
