Canadian police are investigating a number of the people who participated in yesterday’s protest against the nation’s public health mandates to combat the coronavirus after some of the protesters urinated on the National War Memorial and danced on the grave of the unknown soldier, the Associated Press reports. Thousands of protesters took to the streets in Ottawa Saturday, with many of them returning on Sunday morning. Truckers from around the country reportedly attended the protest, blocking some of the streets in the Canadian capital.
Reports from around the city allege protest participants urinated on the National War Memorial and danced on the grave of the unknown soldier, located in downtown Ottawa. A group that runs a soup kitchen for the homeless said protesters came into the facility and berated workers and guests. Protesters also desecrated a memorial to Canadian national hero Terry Fox, a cancer patient who lost a leg but raised funds for research and awareness of the fight against cancer by running across the country. Protesters placed an upside-down Canadian flag over his statue. The Terry Fox Foundation that said “Terry believed in science and gave his life to help others.”
