Using a procedural maneuver, the Republican Speaker for the Arizona House killed a bill his Party members supported that would allow the legislature to overturn any election results it chose with a simple majority vote, CNN reports.
Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers has assigned the bill to go through all twelve House committees, meaning that the bill will die in committee before the session is complete. It’s what the bill’s sponsor called a “12-committee lynching.”
The bill would have canceled all early voting options in the state and required all ballots be cast in-person and only on Election Day. It would have had a provision that would allow a majority in the House to opt not to “accept” election results; if an election was rejected, any of the electors could call for a new election.
