RNC Chairwoman Ronna Not-Romney McDaniel sent an email to Republicans on Saturday with some talking points to help her spin her way out of the shitshow she created Friday when the party adopted a resolution to censure “RINOs” Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for serving on the House January 6th Select Committee. That it included the line “Cheney and Kinzinger are participating in a Democrat-led persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse, and they are both utilizing their past professed political affiliation to mask Democrat abuse of prosecutorial power for partisan purposes,” was interpreted by many, and correctly so, that the GOP were officially condoning the Capitol riot as “legitimate political discourse”.
Here’s the full text of the email, via the Washington Post’s Josh Dawsey, lightly edited for clarity, as well as some annotations for what’s transparently bullshit propaganda:
It was so nice to see you all this week. A few of you have reached out asking for talking points on the resolution censuring Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, as well as the false reporting in the New York Times… Disagreement within our party is welcome and part of what makes our Party great. Working with Nancy Pelosi on a committee that does not have minority party representation is not okay [This fucking thing started because you censured the minority party representation that joined voluntarily when the rest of your party blocked an actual bipartisan commission].
The media and Democrats will continue to try to divide us on this issue, as an attempt to distract from the failures of Joe Biden and Congress. We must remain united and focus on beating Democrats in November. We are the Party to get our country back on track and our polices are what’s right for the American people. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or need anything. Safe travels home. Sincerely, Ronna
Resolution Talking Points:
• Members of the RNC overwhelmingly passed a resolution censoring Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger
– The RNC denounces all acts of political violence and lawlessness. However, [There shouldn’t be a “however” there. It should just be you denounce all acts of political violence and lawlessness, without qualification] the January 6 Committee has greatly exceeded its stated purpose of investigating the events of January 6.
– They are attacking ordinary citizens who engaged in legitimate political discourse completely unrelated to the violence at the Capitol [Oh well, tough shit. Should’ve taken the bipartisan deal].
– Political speech is the most protected form of speech under the First Amendment.
• The January 6th Commission has unchecked power with no regard for due process or the rights of the Republican Party [Again your party could have participated and chose not to].
– Liz Cheney and her colleague Adam Kinzinger are giving Democrats cover to use this as a weapon advancing partisan political purposes.
• The scope of their investigation has grown dramatically beyond the events of January 6 [Well maybe if your Orange God Emperor hadn’t attempted a coup then the “scope” wouldn’t exist at all].
• The Committee is harassing private, non-violent, and law-abiding American citizens who were not in Washington, DC on January 6th. [Benghazi. Fuck you].
• Cheney and Kinzinger work more closely with Nancy Pelosi than they do with Republican leaders.
– There are already ongoing active law enforcement investigations into January 6th [And your party bitches about those morons being treated like “political prisoners” too].
– The US Senate has already completed a bipartisan investigation into January 6th [WTF?].
• Nancy Pelosi and Liz Cheney’s January 6th Commission is trying to distract Americans from Joe Biden’s clear record of failure.
• The RNC has one mission: electing Republicans up and down the ballot and retaking the House and Senate this November.
• Under Joe Biden, Americans are facing: Skyrocketing prices, Chaos at the southern border [etc]
