Taking up a siege mentality, Canadian officials have cut off the supplies of food, fuel and other necessities going to the rogue truckers who are clogging the streets of Ottawa to protest a list of right wing crises, the Washington Post reports.
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson has asked federal and provisional governments to send 1,800 troops to the city to help restore order. Police moved in to the truckers’ encampment and evicted everyone from a makeshift kitchen they had constructed.
Officers on the outskirts of the protest also seized a tanker bringing fuel into the encampment. Police warned that anyone providing fuel to the protesters would face charges. Police have said they launched 60 criminal investigations, issued hundreds of tickets, towed vehicles and made at least 20 arrests since Friday.
