In response to Russia’s recognizing two breakaway provinces in Ukraine and their continued military buildup along the border, Japan and Canada announced significant sanctions Tuesday, Reuters reports.
The nations join the United States, the European Union, Germany and Great Britain in sanctioning Russia and Russian leaders. President Joe Biden announced extensive sanctions earlier Tuesday that will prevent business with Russian banks and institutions.
Germany announced earlier that it was stopping additional progress with the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, cutting Russia off from tens of millions of dollars in much needed revenue daily.
