President Joe Biden nominated Admiral Linda Fagan to lead the United States Coast Guard, a position that would make her the first woman in uniform to lead a branch of the US armed services, Reuters reports.
Currently the vice commandant of the Coast Guard, the Columbus, Ohio native graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in 1985. She will replace Admiral Karl Schultz, who was appointed in 2018.
“Her leadership and integrity are second to none,” Biden said in a tweet announcing the nomination.
