Readers, the apocalypse has come and gone. All that are left are the infected, drooling incel zombies, scattered by the loss of their Satanic wasteland, wandering afar to seek new souls to feast upon. They have sensed fresh meat in our once hallowed digital sanctuary and invaded to spread their disease of malevolence and sexual frustration expressed as racist, homophobic, and fascist MAGA shitposting. Their only goal is to infect humans with their pathology.
Not naming names here but some fucking idiot who runs this site *cough Spartan!* thought it would be a good idea to give them free rein, which is fine in theory but it practice pisses off a lot of our readers, particularly those whom we understand to be the older, more respectable folk whose wisdom and small-c conservatism is apparent in their contributions to the conversations here. At the same time, some of us millennial folk with salt in our blood see these zombies not as wolves but as lambs being led to a slaughter of our making, an abattoir built of righteous cruelty.
It’s not a tenable situation. For before the ragnarok at The Hill, there was a loose understanding that The Hill was the blood and sawdust joint and National Zero was the sophisticated if often bawdy cocktail lounge. Meaning you shitposted there and chatted here. Yeah, we curated a very small set of MAGA trolls to serve as a valve to loosen internal pressure that could lead to infighting. Now the four weeks-long influx of a few extremely bad actors has heated things up and caused infighting. We’ve probably lost some of our valued contributors to the carnage, though we can’t say who or how many for certain at this point given that absences are not the easiest thing to keep track of.
So we’re going to have to come up with a compromise. Here’s what we propose: Mods, we had a rough start earlier this month as you got acclimated but you’ve been doing an excellent job killing the true freaks. Now we need you to sharpen your eyes and judgment for off-topic propaganda.
Like this douchebag. Any MAGA troll posting off topic like that first warn them and then delete it. If they do it again then ban them. You all know the difference between what’s okay off topic and what is not okay off topic. Members of the community in good standing can post off-topic to their heart’s content. And don’t just ban the MAGA OTs, spam them because that cripples their account (exactly how badly we don’t know but we think it’s bad) leaving it subject to deletion by Disqus. If they’re on topic but still annoying as shit give them a longer leash, but not too much longer. Read the room, take the temperature and give them a chance to leave the thread before pulling the trigger. That we hope will go a long way toward making a better community for our more decent readers while giving our brawlers a chance to kick some ass until we can work out a more lasting solution.
The other half is we need every mod to convene for an all hands thread on Slack by Monday. No exceptions. If you cannot join then we understand and hope you’ll remain a part of the community, but we cannot continue giving you moderation powers without there being regular communication about decisions being made. We will have more details on this by Friday night, with a link and verification process for joining the thread so none of the MAGA clowns manage to sneak in.
For the rest of our readers we hope you understand this is a tight line to walk. There’s no way to make everyone happy. We’ve tried to explain where we’re coming from as far as lax moderation policies but that seemed to be interpreted as an invitation by the rosy-palmed fanboys bored with their hentai. To those who actually enjoy kicking the shit out of the trolls we’re going to work hard on a lasting solution, likely culminating in a new sub-community/side project for shitposting gladiators. We hope to have more details and a timeline within a week.
Valhalla awaits.
