Former Trump White House Chief of Staff whined to a court that he’s being unfairly targeted by the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th domestic terrorist attack because it persists in trying to get material from him that he’s hiding, the Associated Press reports.
Lawyers for Meadows have filed numerous motions to void subpoenas the committee has issued for correspondence and communications he sent and received relating to Donald Trump’s efforts to undermine the Constitution to subvert the results of the November 2020 election and pull off a coup to stay in power.
“The Congressional Defendants, under the auspices of a legitimate subpoena, induced Mr. Meadows to produce thousands of his private communications only to use them in a concerted and ongoing effort to vilify him publicly through the media,” Meadows’ attorney, George Terwilliger, wrote in the motion.
The committee has reviewed thousands of messages sent and received by Meadows, who played a key role in the events concerning the January 6th attack. He had a unique position as Chief of Staff with access to Donald Trump as the attack occurred and Trump refused to respond to calls for help and pleads for him to call off the horde of his supporters attacking and threatening Congress.
Meadows was also in contact with Trump family, friends and allies who were undertaking illegal actions to negate the results of the election by attempting to void millions of legitimate votes in state won by President Joe Biden.
