With 57 Republicans voting against it because something something baby formula, the House of Representatives passed a $40 billion aid package for Ukraine, CNN reports. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer says the Senate will take up the bill swiftly.
The bill allows for President Joe Biden to ship Ukraine up to $11 billion in available US military equipment and supplies from US stockpiles, and it adds $6 billion to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative funding previously approved by Congress.
Republicans resisted supporting the aid package because they’re anti-democratic–for both Ukraine and the United States–but they claimed various reasons such as the US still has homeless veterans, there’s a shortage of baby formula, there’s no way to track how every dollar is spent, and likely someone (Gosar?) believe it was going to fund Nazis.
