In his never-ending effort to indoctrinate children to his political whims, Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has named November 7th as “Victims of Communism Day,” the Washington Post reports.
Given the day chosen, DeSantis likely wanted to have annual opportunities to promote his agenda in state-approved material sent to the schools for the mandated-by-law 45-minute lesson on various communist regimes: “Mao Zedong and the Cultural Revolution, Joseph Stalin and the Soviet System, Fidel Castro and the Cuban Revolution, Vladimir Lenin and the Russian Revolution, Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge, and Nicolás Maduro and the Chavismo movement.”
According to the bill, students should learn “how victims suffered under these regimes through suppression of speech, poverty, starvation, migration, and systemic lethal violence.”
Some people are saying DeSantis is doing this to bolster his “look how tough I am!” credentials for future Republican primary debates where such performative acts go over big with their crowd of lemmings who still fear communism. Other are saying that DeSantis went after communism, but failed to sign a “Victims of Fascism Day” for fear of angering Donald Trump.
