“Semiautomatic weapons are fun for the whole family!” the since-shuttered Twitter account from Daniel Defense, the manufacturer of the two guns used in the Uvalde school massacre, seems to be implying in this photo from its website, accessed by the Web Archive, that features a toddler handling an assault weapon with a loaded magazine close by as a nearby adult grooms the child. Note the “DD” watermark in the corner; they’re so proud of this image, they branded it. The tweet featured a verse from the Bible: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” [Proverbs 22:6]
The company released a statement claiming that its weapons were “misused” in the attack, which is odd because they apparently worked well enough to kill more than 20 people, which is the purpose of a weapon. Daniel Defense has said it will skip this weekend’s NRA convention in Houston because it had a previously scheduled event it had forgotten about, or it had to wash its hair, or something suddenly came up.
