A 14-year-old girl from San Antonio, Texas won the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee in the first-ever “spell-off” to decide the contest, USA Today reports.
Harini Logan and her last opponent, Vikram Raju, went through rounds 13 through 18 without spelling their assigned words correctly, so the judges opted for the first-ever “spell-off” where each competitor had 90 seconds to spell as many words correctly as possible.
Logan finished with 21; Raju ended with 15, making Logan the champion.
