ChiCom authorities in Hong Kong took a page out of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s playbook Saturday by cracking down on any all public demonstrations commemorating the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre, turning the wrath of the state on citizens like they were schoolteachers telling second graders that gay people exist, AFP reports. The 1989 massacre, which came as communist regimes in Eastern Europe were collapsing, is basically the Critical Race Theory of China, where even talking about it gets the corrupt authoritarian regime there really angry and defensive.
For most of the 33 years since the Beijing massacre that claimed thousands of lives, June 4th was marked with mass demonstrations in Hong Kong, even after the British left for good in 1997 and transferred sovereignty to China, owing to the agreement which gave the city a high degree of autonomy and Western-style civil liberties – kind of like how Disney World had its own local government until little Mickey Maoist over in Tallahassee cracked down on their freedom for speaking out against his regime. That changed starting in 2019, when the ChiComs imposed a new “security law” which steadily eroded freedoms of speech and expression, punished as if they were a pro baseball team’s social media manager taking a stand against gun violence on social media.
It’s almost like there’s no practical difference between their respective governing philosophies, no matter how much an evil little midget likes to pretend he’s for one and not the other.
