An Arizona man has been charged with second degree murder and unlawful discharge of a weapon after he shot his wife twice after she woke him up at 3:30 in the morning and he picked up a loaded gun he had at his bedside, the Arizona Republic reports.
Thirty-six year-old “responsible gun owner” Christopher Hoopes claimed that in the early morning hours of May 24th, he was suddenly awoken by noise in the bedroom and reflexively reached for his loaded handgun and fired twice, striking his 25-year-old wife, Colleen, a popular local ballet dancer.
Security camera footage from a neighbor’s home recorded audio of the shooting, with two shots fired two seconds apart. Both shots hit Colleen in the chest. Christopher Hoopes called 9-1-1 after the shooting, and told police he was startled, groggy and disoriented when he discharged his handgun twice.
