A bipartisan group of Senators are moving forward on finalizing a package of reforms to the Electoral Count Act to close the loopholes Trump and his MAGA coup accomplices tried to exploit on January 6th, 2021, NBC News reports. “We’ve made a lot of major decisions. We’ve resolved a lot of issues, but we have some more work to do, which I hope we’ll finish up this week,” said Maine Senator Susan Collins after a Thursday meeting. The group are feeling new momentum after primaries so far have been mixed at best for “Stop the Steal” assholes, particularly in Georgia.
On the table are nailing down the Vice President’s role in the counting process. On the table are empowering Congress to identify which state official is lawfully tasked with establishing a state’s electors, raising the threshold for an objection to a single state’s electoral votes from just one Senator or Congressperson to 20% of each chamber, clarifying the Vice President’s role as ministerial, increasing funding for the Electoral Assistance Commission, and protecting local election officials from harassment. More would be better, of course.
