New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver asked the state Supreme Court on Tuesday to compel the three Republican commissioners of Otero County, New Mexico – one of whom is the famous “Cowboys for Trump” asshole Couy Griffin, recently convicted of a misdemeanor for his role in the January 6th, 2021 Capitol insurrection – to certify the results of the June 7th primary elections the commissioners are refusing to approve over their “concerns” with Dominion Voting Systems equipment, the Los Angeles Times reports. On Monday the commissioners – in their capacity as the county’s canvassers – voted unanimously against certification without actually citing any specific issue with the tabulators besides the company that built them.

“I have huge concerns with these voting machines. When I certify stuff that I don’t know is right, I feel like I’m being dishonest because in my heart I don’t know if it is right,” Commissioner Vickie Marquardt said on Monday, true to the MAGA ethos of “feelings” being good enough, and even better than facts and evidence, reason to fuck up the democratic process. The commission are trying to force a hand recount, something the country clerk does not have the authority to do in absence of a court order, which of course the commission have not sought.

Toulouse Oliver is sick of the bullshit and warned the Otero commissioners are engaging in a willful violation of the law. “The post-election canvassing process is a key component of how we maintain our high levels of election integrity in New Mexico and the Otero County Commission is flaunting that process by appeasing unfounded conspiracy theories and potentially nullifying the votes of every Otero County voter who participated in the primary,” said the Secretary of State on Tuesday. County-level New Mexico elections officials have until Friday to certify the results of the vote.
