Republican South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg was convicted by the state Senate of two counts against him related to the September 2020 hit and run death of a pedestrian as he was driving home from a county GOP event at a local bar, CBS News reports. Ravnsborg was officially removed from office as of his conviction on the first count, which passed by a single vote.
The now former AG, who effectively got out of jail free after lying and covering up his negligent vehicular homicide of a “Democrat” rude enough to be walking on the side of the road at night right when Ravnsborg was reading some very important MAGA bullshit on Real Clear Politics on his phone, was reportedly not running for reelection even if he survived the trial.
We should mention that even though the event was held at a bar – a “Lincoln Day Dinner” put on by some county GOP whose name we forget, that was also attended by US Senator Mike Rounds – we were able to view photos from it just two days afterward and close and came away with the strong impression that none of the attendees were consuming alcohol. It doesn’t mean that Ravnsborg wasn’t surreptitiously drinking on the night in question, it makes it pretty unlikely with all factors considered, especially that other Republicans weren’t afraid to eject him from office.
