The 30 member nations of NATO signed off on the the accession protocols for Sweden and Finland on Tuesday, advancing the approval process to the legislatures of each to greenlight, a path still not 100% certain amid bitching and moaning within Turkey’s parliament, the AP reports.
NATO membership requires unanimity among all 30 members and will take at least a few months for the ratification to make its way through each legislature, including whatever bullshit games tiny Russian-paid pseudo-libertarian Rand Paul tries to pull in the US Senate. The issue with Turkey however stems from a number of exiled Kurish rebels and Turks associated with a failed 2016 coup attempt against Erdogan’s regime currently hiding in Sweden and Finland. It’s not clear why Erdogan can’t just hire Mike Flynn and his son again to find these wanted dissidents and stuff them in the trunk of a rental car for delivery to Turkish agents. They probably learned from their mistakes after the first time they tried it failed, so might as well give them another crack at it.
