Disney-owned streaming service Hulu is blocking ads from Dem campaigns on guns, abortion, and January 6th as “too sensitive” of subjects to run during its poorly-timed and unskippable commercial breaks on the lower-priced subscription tier, the Washington Post reports.
“Hulu’s censorship of the truth is outrageous, offensive, and another step down a dangerous path for our country,” the directors of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and the Democratic Governors Association told the Post in a joint statement. “Voters have the right to know the facts about MAGA Republicans’ agenda on issues like abortion – and Hulu is doing a huge disservice to the American people by blocking voters from learning the truth about the GOP record or denying these issues from even being discussed.”
Political ads aren’t banned altogether on Hulu and it’s not clear if GOP campaigns have better luck or even advertise at all on the platform. However, the fanboys should maybe remember this next time they freak out at Disney over some bullshit “controversy” they made up and realize that the company’s squeamishness on certain issues doesn’t always work against their party.
