Unwilling to face the backlash of his opinion written in defense of the revocation of Roe in which he called for the revocation of various civil rights (except, strangely, the one case that legalized his interracial marriage), Justice Clarence Thomas has canceled his appearance as an instructor at George Washington Law School because it’s not a “safe space” where he can live without experiencing the consequences of his actions.
According to the student newspaper The Hatchet, thousands of students at the DC school signed a petition to sever the school’s relationship after Thomas wrote a concurring opinion that called for the review of the legal basis for LGBTQ marriage, the right to contraception and non-missionary-position sex. Thomas did not make a similar statement about the Loving decision protecting interracial marriage; Thomas, a Black male, is married to Ginni Thomas, a white reported woman.
“Unfortunately, I am writing with some sad news: Justice Thomas has informed me that he is unavailable to co-teach the seminar this fall,” Gregory Maggs, a judge at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces and a former Thomas clerk, said in an email, apparently unaware of what “sad” means. “I know that this is disappointing. I am very sorry.”
